Finnegan Downie Dear & Harry Ogg take home Mahler Competition prizes

Finnegan Downie Dear has won first prize and Harry Ogg joint third prize at the 2020 Mahler Competition, following a week-long series of rounds conducting the Bamberg Symphony. Askonas Holt sends congratulations to the winners!

This year’s repertoire included Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, Mozart’s Symphony No. 26, Webern’s Variations for Orchestra, Lachenmann’s Tableau, and the premiere of Miroslav Srnka’s move 04 “Memory Full.”

Finnegan Downie Dear conducted the closing concert with the Bamberg Symphony, featuring Barbara Hannigan as soloist. The program comprised Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 and Srnka’s move 04 “Memory Full.”
