Franco Fagioli made history in 2015 when he became the first countertenor to sign an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. Now, for his third solo release on the yellow label, he presents an album of rediscovered treasures by Neapolitan opera composer Leonardo Vinci.
Continuing his acclaimed artistic partnership with il pomo d’oro, Franco showcases arias from works including Il trionfo di Camilla, Gismondo re di Polonia, L’Ernelinda, Alessandro nell’Indie and Medo, directed by Zefira Valova.
Born in Strongoli in 1690, Leonardo Vinci was one of the originators of the Neapolitan style of opera; along with Nicola Porpora, his followers included Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Johann Adolph Hasse. Regarded as a major proponent of lesser known baroque works, Franco has previously recorded both Vinci’s Artaserse (singing Arbace on disc and DVD), and Catone in Utica (singing Cesare).
Veni, Vidi, Vinci is released on 8 May 2020. Stream or download here.
