Stunning return to the studio for star Latvian mezzo-soprano
This autumn sees the release of ‘Romantique’, a new album of opera arias from the star Latvian mezzo soprano Elīna Garanča on the Deutsche Grammophon label.
Following the success of her last disc ‘Habanera’, Garanča brings her ‘golden mezzo’ (The Times) to the passion and tragedy of opera’s romantic heroines in this new album. This exquisite portrait includes well-loved classics such as Saint-Saëns’s ‘Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix’ from Samson et Dalila, as well as rarely performed gems by Charles Gounod, Nicola Vaccai, Lalo and Tchaikovsky.
Garanča is joined by opera specialist Yves Abel, who draws excellent playing from the Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Abel’s affinity with the voice and his particular skill in this repertoire makes him a superb partner for Garanča. Together they illuminate the romance and drama of some of the most beautiful arias of the mezzo soprano repertoire.
Elīna Garanča’s forthcoming tour of Europe in the months ahead will feature selected works from the album ‘Romantique’. The tour will begin on 25 September at Smetana Hall in Prague, followed by the Kursaal in Bad Wörishofen on 28 September. The album’s UK release will coincide with an appearance by Ms. Garanča at London’s Barbican Centre on 2 October, before taking in La Coruña’s Palacio de la Opera on 5 October and Paris’ Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on 13 October.
At the start of the new year in January, the tour will take in Madrid, Barcelona, Vienna, Graz, Baden-Baden, Zagreb, Hamburg and Geneva.
‘Romantique’ is out now in Europe. The UK follows with the release of this album on October 1 & the US on October 23.
