On Monday, George Benjamin was awarded the Fellowship of King’s College London in recognition of his exceptional service rendered to the College. The ceremony took place at the Barbican Centre in London and was presented by the Chairman of King’s.
Since 2001, George has been Henry Purcell Professor of Music at King’s (succeeding Sir Harrison Birtwistle in the role). He has made an outstanding contribution to the College’s programme of undergraduate and graduate training, including conducting supervisions with individual composers as well as running workshops, seminars and discussion groups. This is widely accepted as being one the leading enterprises of this kind in the world. A passionate and inspiring teacher, he has shaped a new generation of composers.
George is currently in London conducting a revival of his acclaimed opera Written on Skin. Find out more here.
