George Benjamin leads Ensemble Modern on European tour

George Benjamin is about to embark on a European tour with Ensemble Modern and the full-size Ensemble Modern orchestra, beginning in Frankfurt on Sunday 3 March. The tour consists of two programmes; one including Boulez, Messiaen, Ustvolskaja and Benjamin’s own Palimpsests; the other featuring Mason, Milliken, Dallapiccola and Benjamin’s first opera Into the Little Hill.

The opening concert in Frankfurt features Into the Little Hill with soloists Anu Komsi and Helena Rasker, and will be broadcast by Hessicher Rundfunk on Thursday 9 May. Following this performance, the tour moves to London’s Wigmore Hall and the Roundhouse, then on to Cologne for the Cologne premiere of Into the Little Hill, before finishing at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

George has a long history with Ensemble Modern, and was recently interviewed by the Artistic Director and General Manager Christian Fausch about his relationship with the ensemble and his role as both a conductor and composer. Read the full interview here.
