Gergely Madaras makes his Budapest Festival Orchestra debut this week, conducting a Franco-German programme which will be live streamed on Saturday 27 February at 19:45 CET. The concert opens with Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande Suite and sees the Budapest-born conductor joined by compatriot Miklós Perényi for Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No.1; Schumann’s Symphony No.3 concludes the evening.
Earlier this month Gergely returned to the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI for a gala concert featuring Matthias Goerne and Asmik Grigorian – a performance still available on RAI Play. Other recent highlights include his Bournemouth Symphony debut and a return to the BBC Philharmonic.
Gergely has been Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège since 2019 and the partnership has recently been showcased by Mezzo through a series of features and streamed concerts. He will lead the orchestra in performances at the Malta International Music Festival later this year, alongside guest engagements with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre national Montpellier and Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.
