Giovanni Antonini makes his Japanese conducting debut alongside Viktoria Mullova

Giovanni Antonini makes his conducting debut in Japan on Tuesday, directing the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra in two programmes over a week. The first features Beethoven Symphony No. 2 and Beethoven’s violin concerto with Viktoria Mullova as the soloist, who will perform the work on gut strings. Viktoria and Giovanni have worked together on several previous occasions including a recording of Vivaldi Concerti with Giovanni’s ensemble Il Giardino Armonico. Giovanni directs a second programme of baroque and classical repertoire with the orchestra, which sees him take the role of soloist in Vivaldi’s Flautino Concerto in C Rv433, whilst Avi Avital joins them for mandolin concerti by Bach and Vivaldi.

Viktoria also stays on in Japan where she will give two solo recitals at Philia Hall in Yokohama, and the other at Sumida Triphony Hall in Tokyo.
