Today sees the worldwide release of Ian Bostridge’s latest album featuring Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin (The Fair Maid of the Mill) together with pianist Saskia Giorgini continuing his exploration of Schubert’s Song Cycles on the PENTATONE label.
Die schöne Müllerin is the first of Schubert’s most prominent extended song cycles, the other being Winterreise, a work with which Ian Bostridge has become synonymous and previously recorded with Thomas Adès CBE on the PENTATONE record label in 2019. The recording received outstanding critical acclaim and was subsequently crowned with the International Classical Music Awards Vocal Recording of the Year 2020.
One of the most celebrated Lied interpreters of his generation and hailed as one of the foremost Schubertians of our time, Ian Bostridge’s international recital career takes him to the foremost concert halls across the globe. His many recordings have won numerous international record prizes including fifteen Gramophone Awards. He was awarded a CBE in the 2004 New Year’s Honours and in 2016 was awarded the The Roger Duff Cooper Prize for non-fiction writing for his latest book, Schubert’s Winter Journey: Anatomy of an Obsession.
