Iestyn Davies has been awarded an MBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours list. With a truly global career that grows stronger each day, Iestyn is respected as one of the world’s leading counter-tenors and this honour is a great reflection of his work and tireless dedication to the music industry.
On receiving news of the award, Iestyn told Classical Music magazine that he was “incredibly chuffed, honoured and humbled at the news. It rounds off a wonderful 2016 in which I also was married. Maybe this will help make more people aware of what a countertenor is!”
You can hear Iestyn on his newly released disc of J.S. Bach Cantatas which has received immediate critical acclaim and has been selected as Editor’s Choice in Gramophone Magazine.
You can also catch Iestyn performing live at the Royal Opera House later this month under the baton of George Benjamin in the composer’s critically acclaimed opera, Written on Skin. Performances on 13, 18, 23, 27 & 30 January 2017.
