Triumphant Chicago debut for young countertenor
Congratulations to Iestyn Davies who is mid-way through wonderful debuts in Chicago, with both the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Baroque Band.
The critics have been overwhelming in their praise with Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times saying “Iestyn Davies, who has quickly moved to the top rank of countertenors, excelled as Eustazio, Goffredo’s valiant brother.” with John von Rhein of the Chicago Tribune commenting that “…The sweet-voiced Davies, also a newcomer to the Lyric roster, reveals himself to be a Handelian of the first magnitude. It’s good news that he and Bicket will reunite this month for an all-Handel program with Chicago’s Baroque Band.”.
The concerts with Baroque Band have also gone down a storm with The Chicago Tribune saying “Mark well the name Iestyn Davies. You’re going to be hearing a lot from him in the years to come.” and the Chicago Classical Review announcing that “this was about as perfectly realized an evening of Baroque arias as one is ever likely to hear.”.
Further performances of Handel’s Rinaldo are on 16th, 20th, 24th March 2012, also starring David Daniels, Luca Pisaroni and Harry Bicket.
