This morning the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera announced James Gaffigan as Principal Guest Conductor, with immediate effect for the next two seasons.
The appointment comes just months after his debut with the orchestra in September 2020 conducting a programme including Brahms and Dvorák. Now spending most of his free time in the country with his Norwegian wife and son, James commented:
“There is something extremely special about the people of Trondheim. In my opinion, Trondheim is the ‘hidden gem’ of the Norwegian music world.”
James has been Chief Conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra for the past nine seasons in addition to his positions as Principal Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Designate of the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra.
He returns to Trondheim next month for his inaugural performance as Principal Guest Conductor on March 9 and 11 with two opera concerts in addition to a concert with soloist Lise Davidsen on 25 March, 2021.
