James Rutherford makes his role and house debut in ‘Arabella’ at the Netherlands Opera

This Friday sees James Rutherford sing Mandryka in a production of Arabella, directed by Christof Loy and conducted by Marc Albrecht at the Netherlands Opera. This marks both a role and house debut for this rising star,  who continues to make a name for himself in the Strauss and Wagner repertoire. Since his debut as Hans Sachs for Graz Opera back in 2009 James has been adding the Wagner and Strauss roles to his repertoire with great success and has, most recently, sung Hans Sachs at the Hamburg and Vienna State Operas, Jochanaan at the Vienna State Opera, and Barak and Orest at Graz Opera. Following these performances, James will take the role of Mandryka to the Hamburg State Opera. Next season James looks forward to making his debut at the Frankfurt Opera in their production of Euryanthe and will sing his first Amfortas with Andris Nelsons.
James’ new disc, ‘James Rutherford sings Wagner’, which includes arias from Der fliegende Holländer, Tannhäuser and Die Walküre, has recently been released on the BIS label.
