This week, Jonathan Cohen makes his debut directing the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra with Iestyn Davies.
The four performances in California are titled “Operatic Heroes” and include works by Handel, Gluck and C.P.E. Bach. Jonathan and Iestyn have worked together most recently on their acclaimed recording of J.S. Bach Cantatas with Jonathan’s own ensemble, Arcangelo.
Jonathan heads to California having spent a week with Les Violons du Roy in Quebec where he is Music Director Designate, and later this season returns to Minnesota to direct the St Paul Chamber Orchestra, as one of their Artistic Partners. Following this week’s concerts, Iestyn joins the Cleveland Orchestra for performances of the St John Passion before returning to London where he begins rehearsals for Thomas Adès‘ The Exterminating Angel at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
