Next week, Korean bass Jongmin Park makes his company debut with the Teatro Real Madrid on tour at the The Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland – also his Scandinavian opera debut.
Reprising a role that he has previously performed to critical acclaim at the Wiener Staatsoper, Jongmin will sing Sir Giorgo Valton in Bellini’s I puritani in a production by Emilio Sagi conducted by Evelino Pidò. Jongmin performs on 31 July and 3 August. More information here.
Despite his youth, Jongmin is quickly establishing an important international career; having already distinguished himself in roles by Verdi, Puccini and Wagner. Next season at the Wiener Staatsoper, Jongmin’s repertoire will include Ferrando Il trovatore conducted by Marco Armiliato, alongside a cast including Anna Netrebko and Marcelo Álvarez; Vodník in Rusalka, conducted by Tomáš Hanus with Krassimira Stoyanova in the title role; as well as Hunding, Die Walküre; Banco, Macbeth; Don Basilio, Il barbiere di Siviglia; Figaro, Le nozze di Figaro; as well as a reprisal of Sir Giorgo in I puritani.
Jongmin’s next Scandinavian opera performance will be next season at Bergen Nasjonale Opera in a concert performance of Otello conducted by Edward Gardner. Future seasons will see a series of company debuts including his US debut at The Dallas Opera.
