This week sees Karina Canellakis and Nicola Benedetti return to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for two concerts on 18 and 20 October. They greatly enjoyed working together earlier this year when Nicola played Szymanowski’s second violin concerto for the closing concerts of the Orchestre de Paris season. The programme in Stockholm features Szymanowski’s first violin concerto, a piece which has been closely associated with Nicola since it was featured on her debut release with Deutsche Grammophon in 2005. Karina and the orchestra will also perform Strauss’ Symphonic Fantasy on Die Frau ohne Schatten and Dvorak Symphony No. 7.
For Karina, these concerts mark the end of her latest tour of Europe, which has included successful debuts with the Oslo and London Philharmonic Orchestras. She then embarks on an extensive tour of Australia before returning to once again conduct the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic for the prestigious Nobel Prize Concert in December.
Nicola has a busy few weeks ahead, first performing in Toulouse with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, conducted by Michael Sanderling, before traveling to Melbourne Recital Centre for a performance with pianist Alexei Grynyuk and cellist Leonard Elschenbroich.
You will able to watch the concert on-demand on RSPO Play.
