Karina Canellakis debuts with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks tomorrow evening conducting a programme pairing Richard Strauss’ Serenade and Vier Lieder, Op.27 with Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht. The concert – which features soprano Camilla Nyland – will be live streamed from the Gasteig.
The step-in marks Karina’s return to the German city having performed the Münchner Philharmoniker back in June. Since then she has conducted concerts with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic – in her second season as the orchestra’s Chief Conductor – alongside the Opus Klassik Awards in Berlin and a Wagner project with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
Karina returns to Stockholm in April for a Brahms and Mahler programme. The spring of 2021 also sees the American lead concerts with the Wiener Symphoniker, Israel Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin – the latter two in her capacity as their Principal Guest Conductor.
