This month sees Karina Canellakis travel to Europe after beginning her 2018/19 season in North America with returns to the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl and Milwaukee Symphony, as well as conducting the orchestra for the Honens Piano Competition in Calgary.
In Europe, Karina makes debuts with both the Oslo Philharmonic and London Philharmonic orchestras. In Oslo, Karina will lead the orchestra in a programme of works by Dvořák, Szymanowski and Rachmaninoff with soloist Nikolai Znaider (4 October), while in London she will conduct Sibelius, Dvořák and Bartók with soloist Pierre-Laurent Aimard (10 October).
Karina then travels to Stockholm for a re-invitation to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, collaborating once again with violinist Nicola Benedetti for two concerts of works by Strauss, Dvořák and Szymanowski (18 & 20 October). Karina will return to Stockholm again in December for the prestigious Nobel Prize Concert (8 December).
Karina was recently appointed as Chief Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, set to begin in September 2019. This weekend she will appear on the popular Dutch talk show ‘Podium Witteman’ to discuss her new position, as well as giving a short performance with the orchestra. The programme will air on Sunday at 6.10pm on NPO Start and will be streamed on-demand here.
