Kensho Watanabe co-founds Conductors’ Collective

Conductors Kensho Watanabe and Lina Gonzalez-Granados have launched Conductors’ Collective, a community-based platform that provides online mentorship and professional training for conductors around the world.

At the core of the initiative’s mission is “to share principles guided by the spirit of music-making in order to create a community of potential leaders who are prepared to face the challenges of a rapidly evolving musical landscape.” Kensho and Lina lead each themed discussion with guests, and offer community members conversation and access to music professionals.

Guests in the third season include Matías Tarnopolsky, Karen Cargill, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Thomas Wilkins, Sarah Hicks, and Ben Spalter. Past participants include Marin Alsop, Aubrey Bergauer, Elim Chan, Rob Deemer, Gabriela Lena Frank, David Kim, David Lomelí, Joe Miller, and Laura Reynolds.

“Lina and I recognize that the successes in our careers are shared with our mentors with whom we have been lucky to work,” says Kensho. “As we continue to build our own careers, we hope that Conductors’ Collective allows us to give back to our diverse community of musician-leaders, offering them the opportunity to gain valuable lessons and experiences that are not otherwise available or accessible.”
