Kristina Mkhitaryan makes fifth debut of the year at the Sydney Opera House



Toi toi toi to Soprano Kristina Mkhitaryan who will make her fifth house debut of the year this week at the Sydney Opera House. She performs as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto having previously made her first public appearance in the role at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

Earlier this season, Kristina made her first house and role appearance as Michaela in Barrie Kosky’s Carmen at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. She followed this with her debut at the Palau des Arts Valencia as Medora in Il Corsaro. Most recently, she stepped in last minute to make her first appearance at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, reprising her signature role of Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata, and last month made her Opera di Roma debut in the same role.

Kristina will finish the year with two more: a first house appearance at the Bayerische Staatsoper in La traviata and her Metropolitan Opera debut in Gianni Schicchi opposite Placido Domingo and under the baton of Bertrand de Billy. Later in the season she will make her first house appearances at Palm Beach Opera and Royal Opera House Muscat (performing La traviata at both houses), will debut at the Hamburgische Staatsoper in Rigoletto and will return to Glyndebourne for her first role appearance as Armida in Handel’s Rinaldo.
