We are delighted to announce that Kristina Mkhitaryan was awarded the first prize at the 2013 Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Norway on Friday.
The competition this year took place over several days and was made up of three rounds, beginning with a total of 40 singers who were whittled down to just five for the final. Kristina’s competition repertoire included the Snow Maiden’s aria from the opera of the same name by Rimsky Korsakov, as well as arias from Bellini’s La Sonnambula and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.
Winners from previous years were also invited to perform, including two AH artists: Norwegian Baritone, Audun Iversen who won 1st prize in 2007 and was accompanied by Joseph Breinl.
Kristina also had a successful 2012 taking third place at the Francisco Vinas 49th International Singing Competition in Barcelona and becoming a finalist at the Hans Gabor Belvedere International competition in Vienna last year.
Mkhitaryan is a member of the Young Artist Program of the Bolshoi Theatre and made her debut in May 2013 as Xenia in Boris Godunov. This season she will sing the roles Prilep Queen of Spades, Brigitte Iolanta as well as the Voice from Heaven in Don Carlos.
