This week sees Lars Vogt embark on an extensive tour of Asia with his orchestra, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, which is also their first tour of the continent since they were founded in 1958. He will play two back-to-back concerts in Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul, performing the complete cycle of Beethoven Piano Concertos, as well as conducting Beethoven Symphonies Nos. 7 & 8.
This tour coincides with the first release in a three-album series of the same cycle on Ondine, again with the Royal Northern Sinfonia. The further two albums will be released over the next year and will also feature other pieces by the great composer. Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 5 was released last month, and subsequently chosen by John Suchet as Classic FM’s album of the week.
