This Thursday 26 July, Long Yu makes his debut with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome. Long is joined on stage by pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, also making her debut with the orchestra, who opens the concert with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent Piano Concerto No. 1. The Tchaikovsky is followed by Mahler’s First Symphony Titan. The concert takes place at Rome’s outdoor venue, Auditorium Parco della Musica.
Next season marks Long’s 10th year as Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Having recently signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon and the SSO, Long will conduct a spectacular launch concert in October at the site of Beijing’s historic Imperial Ancestral Temple at the Forbidden City. As part of Deutsche Grammophon’s 120th anniversary, he will be joined by Askonas Holt artists Aida Garifullina and Toby Spence, plus Ludovic Tézier, Daniel Hope and Hélène Grimaud.
Further highlights of the upcoming season include concerts with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan and others.
