This week, Ludovic Morlot will conduct the world premiere of Caroline Shaw’s new piano concerto Watermark with Jonathan Biss over three concerts.
Watermark was commissioned by Seattle Symphony and is written as a response to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Each concert will begin with the Beethoven, followed by Caroline Shaw’s Watermark, and will finish with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1.
Caroline Shaw was the youngest ever winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013 and has previously collaborated with Ludovic on the 2018 Seattle Symphony Media disc including Berio’s Sinfonia for Eight Voices and Orchestra with Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth. Find out more about both Caroline and Watermark in this interview on the Seattle Symphony website.
