Malcolm Martineau: A Life in Song returns to BBC Radio 3

This week, Malcolm Martineau: A Life in Song returns to BBC Radio 3, with four hour-long programmes at 1pm from Tuesday to Friday. First seen in 2016, the series shines a spotlight on Malcolm’s role as an accompanist and is organised by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the BBC.

The programmes feature performances from Malcolm and singers Dorothea Röschmann, Simon Keenlyside and Kitty Whately, plus interviews with Malcolm and the artists. Recordings were taken at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland earlier this year.

A review of Malcolm and Dorothea’s recital said: “With each successive group of songs, the sophistication of the relationship between singer and accompanist seemed further enhanced. Martineau clearly led the dramatic narrative in the pause before the last of the Schumann songs and the partnership in the settings of Mathilde Wesendonck is, being Wagner, simply of its own world.” ★★★★ The Herald Scotland
