This week, Maria João Pires gives two final concerto appearances with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and long-time collaborator Bernard Haitink at the Tonhalle Maag. Given Maria’s retirement from public performances and touring, the performances of Mozart’s Concerto No. 27 K. 595 mark the end of a long standing and highly esteemed partnership between the two artists, a collaboration long favoured by orchestras and audiences alike.
“[Maria João Pires and Bernard Haitink] both display a serenity, exquisite control and a dedicated yet no-nonsense attitude to performance. It may sound a cliché, but for both of them, it’s not about themselves but it’s all about the music and the composer.”

Renowned for his interpretation of Bruckner, Bernard will also conduct the orchestra in the Fourth Symphony. The concerts take place on 20 and 21 December, more information here.
