Today marks the beginning of the annual Trondheim Chamber Music Festival. Tomorrow evening’s official opening concert will feature soprano Miah Persson and mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn alongside double bassist Rick Stotijn, pianist Trygve Brøske, violinist Malin William-Olsson and both the Danish String Quartet and Maxwell Quartet. Christianne and Miah will sing a set of Schumann duets with Christianne also performing featured Dutch composer Michel van der Aa’s For the time being, a work that was written specifically for her and her brother. On Wednesday evening, Christianne will perform Van der Aa’s mesmerising Spaces of Blank in concert with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
This commences another exciting season for Christianne with future engagements including Ades’ Totentanz with both the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Daniel Harding, Mahler’s Symphonies 2 and 3 with the Orchestre National de Lille, a Netherlands national tour of Das Lied von der Erde with the Netherlands Blazers Ensemble and a recital at the Strasbourg Opera House with Joseph Breinl.
Miah Persson comes to Trondheim straight from a concert with Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, singing Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder. The concert follows Miah’s extraordinary success stepping in for an ill-disposed Diana Damrau at the BBC Proms in August, where she made her debut with the RLPO. Extracts of that performance can be heard here.
Highlights of Miah’s busy season include Mahler Symphony no. 4 with the Wiener Symphoniker and on tour to Spain with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg; Brahms Requiem with the Gävle Symfoniorkester; Mahler Symphony no. 2 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic; Mozart Concert Arias on tour with the Freiburger Barockorchester; and Bruckner Te Deum and Brahms’ Requiem with Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra.
