Mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung will make her role debut as Ježibaba tonight at the Opéra de Paris, in Robert Carsen’s 2001 production of Rusalka. Stepping in at just a month’s notice, she adds another great role to her repertoire and joins a cast that includes Klaus Florian Vogt, Karita Mattila and Camilla Nylund. Susanna Mälkki conducts.
Following six performances of Rusalka, Michelle will return to the US for a number of high-profile concert engagements, including: Das Lied von der Erde with both the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra under Matthias Pintscher, and the Nashville Symphony under Giancarlo Guerrero; Bluebeard’s Castle with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen; and Dream of Gerontius with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Michael Francis. She will return to Europe next season.
Performances of Rusalka take place on 29 January, 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13 February. Find out more on the Opéra de Paris website.
