Mikhail Petrenko embarks on European run of Shostakovich 13

This weekend, Russian bass Mikhail Petrenko embarks on multi-city European tour performing Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13; first with Ingo Metzmacher in Berlin and Hamburg, and then with Yannick Nézet-Séguin in Rotterdam, Paris and Dortmund. Mikhail performs the piece regularly, most notably at the BBC Proms under Valery Gergiev, and most recently with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in Munich.

Beginning on Saturday 2 February at the Philharmonie Berlin with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Mikhail is joined by Cédric Tiberghien who performs Messiaen’s Trois Petites Liturgies de la Présence Divine with Ondes-Martenot player Nathalie Forget. These performances mark Cédric’s debuts with both the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra.

This arrives in the middle of a very busy season for Mikhail, who recently made his role debut as Boris Godunov at Opéra des Nations, Geneva. He made his house debut this month at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, and is currently at Teatro alla Scala preparing his return to the role of Ivan Chovanskij in Khovanshchina under Valery Gergiev. Later this season, he performs Die Walküre (First Act) with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and returns to the Netherlands to perform Shostakovich Symphony No. 14 with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta.
