Russian bass, Mikhail Petrenko
returns to the Metropolitan Opera
stage this month in the title role of Bartok’s psychological thriller, Duke Bluebeard’s Castle
. Conducted by Valery Gergeiev, Mikhail will star as the diabolical Bluebeard alongside soprano Nadja Michael who plays the role of his unwitting victim, Judith. The new co- production with Teatr Wielki is lead by polish filmmaker and artistic director, Mariusz Trelinski and will premiere on Monday 26th January 2015. The 2014/15 season has already seen Mikhail sing the title role in concert for Royal Danish Opera and his forthcoming highlights include Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13 and a recital for the Verbier Festival.
