Out today, the Heath Quartet‘s first CD on the Wigmore Hall LIVE label featuring the complete Tippett quartets!
Recorded live at Wigmore Hall on 3 December 2013, 17 January, 16 March and 26 April 2014, the CD is the first definitive recording of Tippett Quartets in 25 years. It is now available to purchase on the Wigmore Hall website.
Speaking to the Wigmore Hall, Oliver Heath, first violinist of the quartet, says: “We really feel that the energy of our concert performances is captured in this recording for Wigmore Hall Live. The works are very well suited to live recording; in a concert you really have to perform, and have to take risks, and we certainly feel that this comes across on the CD. Right from the very beginning of the process, getting to know these five works was an exciting journey of discovery for us, and through the recording we hope to take the works to new audiences and convince people to make that investment in Tippett as a composer – he’s a really exciting, worthy voice to listen to.”
Watch a video about the making of the recording and insights into their fresh interpretation, including fascinating discussions with Tippett’s long time partner.
They’ve hardly any time to catch a breath, though – they’ll be back in the studio later this month when they start work on the Tchaikovsky Quartets for their first recording on Harmonia Mundi, to be released in 2016.
And the Heath Quartet will be back at the Wigmore Hall in the New Year for a concert together with James Baillieu on 5 January 2016. Find out more on the Wigmore Hall website.
