Elīna Garanča’s new album for Deutsche Grammophon, Revive, will be released on Friday 4 November and is available for pre-order now.
The album follows Elīna’s exploration of strong female characters in opera, with arias from Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana (in which she will make her debut at the Opéra National de Paris later this month), Saint-Saëns’ Henri VIII, Leoncavallo’s La bohème, Massenet’s Hérodiade and Werther, Cilea’s Andrea Lecouvreur, Thomas’ Mignon, Verdi’s Don Carlo, Berlioz’s Les Troyens, and more. The album was recorded in Valencia earlier this year with Roberto Abbado and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.
In the liner notes for the album, Elīna says; “You may be wondering: what came first – the idea for the album or the repertoire? With me, it’s always the emotions that come first, and then the idea. That’s because I can only really record something well if I feel it deep inside of me, right at this very moment. It was like that with Habanera, when we bought a house in Spain. When I recorded Romantique I was pregnant for the first time. Meditation marked the time of my second pregnancy, then my mother was diagnosed with cancer. And now, after all that has happened in recent months, this concept was next up: strong women in moments of weakness; women who nevertheless regain their equilibrium and their inner strength.”
