Askonas Holt is delighted to announce the general management of conductor Cristian Macelaru.
Born in Romania, 34-year-old Macelaru is Conductor-in-Residence of The Philadelphia Orchestra. His rapidly developing career in North America has already seen him conduct orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra (Washington) and Toronto Symphony. Macelaru made his operatic debut conducting Madama Butterfly for Houston Grand Opera.
In Europe, Macelaru has conducted the Hallé Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony and Bournemouth Symphony. Replacing the orchestra’s late chief conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Macelaru is currently conducting the Danish National Symphony and Anne-Sophie Mutter in Copenhagen before leading the orchestra on tour in Germany and the US, including a performance at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
Future engagements will include visits to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony.
Macelaru’s North/South American management will continue to be handled by Charlotte Lee, now with Primo Artists, a newly established management agency in New York.
General management will be handled by Rupert Chandler, a Senior Manager at Askonas Holt, as the agency continues to build upon a roster of international conducting talent with the first new artist signing of 2015.
Macelaru said of his move: “I am very excited to join Askonas Holt’s roster of magnificent artists, and look forward to working closely with Rupert Chandler.”
