Nicole Car debuts at Wiener Staatsoper

Soprano Nicole Car makes her house debut at the Wiener Staatsoper as she steps in to the role of Tatjana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. Performances run from 25 October to 6 November with Tomáš Hanus conducting. Nicole stars alongside Anna Goryachova as Olga, Andrè Schuen as Eugen Onegin, and Bogdan Volkov as Lenski.

Recent and future highlights for Nicole include her return to the Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Opéra de Paris. She is a much sought-after young singer, with recent appearances at the Royal Opera House, Dallas Opera, and Opera Australia. Nicole won the Neue Stimmen in 2013, was nominated for Best Young Singer at the 2015 International Opera Awards, and won the Best Female Performer in an Opera category at the 2018 Helpmann Awards.

This run in Vienna marks Nicole’s return to the opera stage since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, during which Nicole has used her time offstage to launch Freelance Artist Relief Australia. The charity was established in early 2020 to bring immediate financial help to Australian classical musicians affected by the crisis. You can watch Nicole discuss her project, and the unique needs of freelance musicians today, with mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston in a talk captured during lockdown.
