We are delighted to announce that the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World finalist, Olena Tokar will join our roster from September. Born in the Ukraine, the soprano graduated from the Music College in Lugansk and went on to study at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy in Kiev. As a member of the Kiev Conservatory she sang roles such as; Zemfira in Aleko, Iolanta in Iolanta and the role of Bastienne in Mozart’s Bastien and Bastienne.
Olena also took part in the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival where she had the opportunity to undertook masterclasses with renowned artists such as; Ileana Cotrubas, Christa Ludwig, Michael Schade, and Alfred Brendel.
Ms. Tokar is currently part of the ensemble at Leipzig Opera where this season she will sing the roles: Pamina in Die Zauberflote
, Anna in Nabucco
and make her debut in the title role of Humperdinck’s opera, Sleeping Beauty
as well as her debut in the role of Mariana in Wagner’s Das Liebesverbot
. Olena has also just been selected as a BBC New Generation Artist
for 2013. The singer was a finalist at the Ferruccio Tagliavini competition in Austria and in 2012 also became a finalist at the Francisco Viñas competition. In the same year she also won first prize at the Lortzing Competition in Leipzig as well as the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.
