This week, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra embark on a historic tour to Australia and Asia with Conductor Laureate, Daniel Harding. Beginning with a debut residency at the Adelaide Festival from 8 to 10 March, the tour continues with concerts in Tokyo and Shanghai.
With a programme featuring Schubert Symphony No. 3 and Bruckner Symphony No. 4, Daniel and the MCO explore the deep connection between these two late Viennese Romantic composers. They also celebrate Mozart’s creative genius with his three final symphonies.
Daniel and the MCO have performed to audiences in Australia before, at the Sydney Opera House in 2013, where they were greeted with five-star reviews and a hope that the MCO would return to the country soon.
Askonas Holt last worked with the MCO on a highly successful tour of George Benjamin’s Written on Skin, giving semi-staged concert performances in Barcelona, Madrid and London, and we are delighted to be back on the road with the orchestra this month.
