Fresh from a highly successful tour of Japan with the NHK Symphony, Rafael Payare makes his Hollywood Bowl debut with the LA Philharmonic this week conducting a programme including Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 (27 July, Hollywood Bowl). Rafael will then return to Aspen in August to conduct a programme including Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major, with Sergey Khachatryan, and Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben, with the Aspen Festival Orchestra (13 August, Aspen Festival).
Rafael has enjoyed a busy season, with recent highlights including return visits to the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and the Philharmonia at the Royal Festival Hall, as well as debuts with the Accademia Santa Cecilia Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. This season also saw Rafael return to the Royal Swedish Opera, conducting their production of La bohème.
Rafael looks forward to an exciting 2017/18 season, including return visits to the Vienna Philharmonic, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Czech Philharmonic and the Orchestre de le Suisse Romande, as well as debuts with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Staatskapelle Dresden, Minnesota Orchestra and his Berlin subscription debut with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Rafael, currently the Chief Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra, has also announced that he is to continue his special relationship with the orchestra, taking the title as Music Director from the 2017/18 season.
