Robin Ticciati returns to BRSO and Budapest Festival Orchestra

Robin Ticciati conducts the Budapest Festival Orchestra this evening in a live-streamed performance of Stravinsky’s The Firebird and Jörg Widmann’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with soloist Christian Tetzlaff.

The concert opens with Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis – a piece Robin recently conducted with his own Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin as part of a special programme where he invited Sir Simon Rattle to share the podium. In addition to conducting, both Brits went back to their percussive roots, becoming part of the drum line in Purcell’s Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary – you can watch the full concert here.

Next month Robin returns to the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, another European ensemble with whom he has a close relationship. Christian Gerhaher will join the concert to sing Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder and Robin leads the orchestra in Brahms’ Serenade No. 1 in D Major. The 5 February concert will be available to watch for free, live on BR-Klassik.
