Role and company debuts in Welsh National Opera’s new Rosenkavalier

A new production of Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier opens at Welsh National Opera this weekend, featuring three Askonas Holt artists.

Rebecca Evans is the Marschallin, Brindley Sherratt the blustering Baron Ochs and Louise Alder sings Sophie.

Having sung Sophie in many of the world’s great houses, Rebecca returns to the opera, singing the Marschallin for the first time. Brindley Sherratt makes his role debut too, as Ochs, a role he will sing next at the Glyndebourne Festival next summer. Louise, who – as England’s representative in this year’s Cardiff Singer of the World – has a very busy month ahead of her, makes her company debut as Sophie, a role she has previously sung at the BBC Proms with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and for Oper Frankfurt.

Der Rosenkavalier opens on Sunday 4 June, with further performances on 10 and 17 June, and 1 July. More information on the WNO website.
