Royal Opera bohème for Etienne, Rodion, Ekaterina & Duncan

Etienne Dupuis makes his Royal Opera debut this week as Marcello in the first revival of Richard Jones’ 2017 production of La bohème, conducted by Nicola Luisotti, and also starring Rodion Pogossov, Ekaterina Siurina and Duncan Rock.

Earlier this season, Etienne made house debuts at the Teatro Real Madrid for La bohème, and Bayerische Staatsoper for Il barbiere di Siviglia. He will open the 18/19 season with his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Marcello, featuring James Gaffigan and Nicole Car in their house debuts, plus Met-regular Matthew Rose. Future engagements include returns to the Opéra de Paris as Belcore L’elisir d’amore and the title role Don Giovanni (featuring Nicole Car as Donna Elvira).

Russian baritone Rodion Pogossov made his Royal Opera House concert debut in 2009 and returns for his opera debut in the role of Marcello. No stranger to La bohème, he has previously performed Marcello with Cincinnati Opera and Michigan Opera Theatre, and Schaunard at the Metropolitan Opera. Next season, he returns to his signature role of Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia at Opera Nacional de Chile Santiago, and will make his house debut at La Monnaie in Don Pasquale.

Ekaterina Siurina and Duncan Rock return to the Royal Opera as Mimi and Schaunard respectively. Ekaterina has had a busy season that has included Adina L’elisir d’amore for the Bayerische Staatsoper and Pittsburgh Opera, and Donna Anna Don Giovanni for the Wiener Staatsoper. Next season she will travel to Paris and Luxembourg to perform Gilda Rigoletto with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg (with Sir Simon Keenlyside in the title role) and will sing Violetta La Traviata for the Wiener Staatsoper.

This rounds off a wonderful season for Duncan Rock, which has seen his Metropolitan Opera debut as Schaunard, as well as Mountjoy in a new production of Gloriana for the Teatro Real Madrid and Wreck in concert performances of Wonderful Town with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle.
