Ryan Speedo Green makes Theater an der Wien debut in “Porgy and Bess”

Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green makes his Theater an der Wien house debut this October, stepping in for performances of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. He stars as Jake, a role he returned to play at the Metropolitan Opera’s 2019/20 season opening.

This new production in Vienna is directed by Matthew Wild with Wayne Marshall at the podium. Ryan sings alongside Eric Greene and Simon Shibambu (Porgy), Jeanine de Bique and Pumeza Matshikiza (Bess), and Brandie Sutton (Clara).

Ryan was praised by Anne Midgette of The Washington Post as an artist “fully ready for a big career.” He performs internationally on the world’s greatest opera and concert stages, having appeared on the Met Opera’s Live in HD programs, as an ensemble member at the Wiener Staatsoper, and more. He has told his story in the critically acclaimed book Sing for Your Life: A Story of Race, Music, and Family.
