This Sunday, Australian baritone Samuel Dale Johnson makes his debut at the Zurich Opera. Sam will make a role debut as Belcore in the Grischa Asagaroff production of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Completing the accomplished cast are Mauro Peter as Nemorino, Mané Galoyan as Adina and Erwin Schrott as Dulcamara, with Nikolas Nägele conducting.
Sam is currently a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble where his numerous successes to date include such varied roles as Escamillo Carmen, Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Count Le nozze di Figaro, title role Don Giovanni, Matthieu Andrea Chénier, Angelotti Tosca and Don Alvaro Il viaggio a Reims.
Further ahead, Sam will make a debut at the Bordeaux Opera in a concert programme of Verdi before returning to Berlin for numerous operatic appearances. In 2021, Sam will make a number of appearances with Opera Queensland before making an eagerly-awaited American debut at the Santa Fe Opera.
