This week sees a return to Scottish Opera for baritone Samuel Dale Johnson, who sings the title role in a new production of Eugene Onegin by ROH Head of Opera, Oliver Mears. Sam previously appeared with the company in 2016 as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro. Making up the remainder of the leading quartet are Natalya Romaniw as Tatyana, Peter Auty as Lensky and Sioned Gwen Davies as Olga, alongside AH singers James Platt and Graeme Broadbent as Zaretsky and Prince Gremin respectively. Scottish Opera’s Music Director, Stuart Stratford will conduct.
This continues a very busy season for Sam which began with a return to the Royal Opera House for Silvio Paglicacci, and continued with an acclaimed house debut at Northern Ireland Opera as Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte. Further ahead, he will return to Scottish Opera for Silvio before joining the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in September, where his roles will include Escamillo Carmen, title role Don Giovanni and Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia.
Eugene Onegin will open in Glasgow this Friday, before going on tour to Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Belfast. Further information can be found here.
