This evening, six Askonas Holt artists take to the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in the opening night of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sadko, an opera in seven scenes based on the legendary hero Sadko in historic Russian tales.
The cast includes Ekaterina Semenchuk (Lubava Buslaevna), Aida Garifullina (Volkhova), Mikhail Petrenko (Whistle), Nikolay Didenko (Sea Tsar), Andrey Zhilikhovsky and Andrei Kymach (Venetian Merchants, alternate performances) in the production directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov debuted at the Bolshoi in February 2020 and for which Ekaterina Semenchuk and Aida Garifullina have subsequently been nominated for a Golden Mask award for their previous roles as Lubava Buslaevna and Volkhova respectively.
Aida Garifullina commented on the previous production, “This large-scale production [is] very beautiful and bright and the sets that are involved were painted by great Russian artists”.
