Sophie proves herself a foxy lady
Congratulations to Sophie Bevan who is currently enjoying a huge success in her role debut as Vixen Sharp Ears in Welsh National Opera’s production of Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen. Rian Evans of The Guardian says “As the vixen Bystrouska, soprano Sophie Bevan had a vibrant yet creamy tone; she was captivating in her foxy allure.” whilst Hugh Canning of The Sunday Times comments that “Bevan sings the Vixen as beautifully as anyone I have heard…a charming fresh face…”.
The production also featured Alan Oke as the Schoolmaster, undertaking the role with aplomb with Hugh Canning saying “Alan Oke’s Schoolmaster…[is] moving in their human frailty”. Alan is also singing the multiple roles in WNO’s production of Lulu. John Allison of The Telegraph said “In a work all about symmetries, the multiple roles are brilliantly carried off by a cast including… Alan Oke.”.
