Strauss, Berlioz and Beethoven in Baden-Baden

The annual Easter festival in Baden-Baden is returning once again with a dazzling set of concerts. Sir Simon Rattle conducts the Berliner Philharmoniker in a new production of Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier which marks the first time the orchestra has performed the opera in its entirety. The outstanding cast includes Magdalena Kožená as Octavian, Anna Prohaska as Sophie and Peter Rose as Baron Ochs (performances 27, 30 March, 2 and 6 April 2015). Rattle also conducts concert performances of Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust featuring the tremendous Joyce DiDonato as Marguerite and Ludovic Tézier as Mephistopheles (performances 29 March and 5 April 2015).
Bernard Haitink conducts Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with violinist Isabelle Faust alongside Symphony no. 6 ‘Pastoral’ (28 March 2015).

On 28 March 2015, Anna Prohaska and Andreas Ottensamer perform together in a chamber music concert in the Baden-Baden Kurhaus conducted by Duncan Ward. The programme will include Schubert’s ‘Shepherd on a rock’ as well as works by Webern, Brahms and Mahler. The following day Andreas performs in a programme of Viennese music and poetry from the turn of the century in the Phiharmonische Salon. Click here to watch Simon Rattle introduce the Baden-Baden Easter Festival 2015: “What an incredible treat for myself and the orchestra to return to Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier as the main opera of the festival. We have a great cast, with the extraordinary coup of having the wonderful Brigitte Fassbaender as stage director, herself probably the greatest exponent of Octavian in the twentieth century so it will be fascinating for us all to work together.

The rest of the festival is also a feast, with Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust  with an extraordinary cast including Joyce DiDonato, and an unmissable concert with Bernard Haitink and Isabelle Faust. … We can’t wait to be back and I hope you will all come to join us.”
