The Bergen Philharmonic launch their Summer Festivals Tour

After the success of a five-date European tour earlier this year, the Bergen Philharmonic with Chief Conductor Edward Gardner embark on a Summer Festival tour across some of Europe’s finest festivals and concert halls starting on Sunday 19 August.

We’re delighted to be working with the orchestra again following an extremely successful European tour in April this year with performances in Zagreb, Udine, Ljubljana, Bergamo and Brescia, and two tours in 2017. In particular, their performance of Peter Grimes with Edward in 2017 stunned critics, receiving multiple five-star reviews.

This is the first time Edward has performed with the Bergen Philharmonic at the BBC Proms which makes it a particularly special visit. The orchestra will be joined by soloists: Alina Ibragimova (BBC Proms), James Ehnes (Amsterdam) and Leif Ove Andsnes (Hamburg and Warsaw).

Repertoire includes the world premiere of Rolf Wallin’s Violin Concerto (BBC Proms, 21 August) and Sibelius’ Symphonies Nos. 2 & 5.

The concert in Hamburg on 22 August marks both the orchestra and Edward’s debut performances in the new Elbphilharmonie concert hall. Additionally, the performances in London and Warsaw will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and Polskie radio, respectively.
