and Ian Bostridge
gave a wonderful performance of Britten’s Songs of the Chinese
at the Gramophone Awards
ceremony last night!
The perfect tribute to Julian Bream, who collected a Lifetime Achievement award, and for whom Britten composed the piece in 1957.
Also present at the Awards were Sir John Eliot Gardiner, whom we congratulate on winning the Baroque Vocal category for his disc of Bach Motets with the Monteverdi Choir (SDG SDG716) and Brindley Sherratt, whose recording of Elgar’s The Apostles with Sir Mark Elder, the Hallé Orchestra and Rebecca Evans, won the Choral award (CDHLD7534).
Sir Antonio Pappano collected the Opera award for Puccini’s Il trittico with the Chorus and Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, which also features Ekaterina Siurina (Opus Arte OA1070D; OABD7102D).
