makes his debut tonight with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra
, in a special concert which launches Musikfest Berlin’s series of concerts celebrating the 150th birthday of Danish composer Carl August Nielsen. An acclaimed interpreter of Nielsen, Thomas will conduct the German premiere of Nielsen’s Sixth Symphony, the Sinfonia Semplice
, arranged for chamber orchestra by Hans Abrahamsen.
This concert marks a superb start to the new season for Thomas, who in 15/16 makes his debut with Leipzig Gewandhaus, Toronto Symphony, Norske Opera (new production of Magic Flute) and Netherlands Philharmonic. Return visits this season include to DSO Berlin, Houston, Atlanta and Danish National Symphony Orchestras. Future plans include returns to many of his regular guest orchestras and debuts with Deutsche Oper Berlin, London Philharmonic Orchestra and UK and international touring with BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
