Thomas Søndergård debuts with the Berliner Philharmoniker

Thomas Søndergård will debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker this weekend, stepping in to conduct Sibelius’ Symphony No.6 alongside works by Prokofiev and Weill at the Philharmonie.

The concert, broadcast live on Saturday 20th via the Digital Concert Hall, is part of the orchestra’s “Golden Twenties” series. Bookending the Sibelius are suites from The Love of Three Oranges and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny – Søndergård will perform the latter in its entirety when he makes his Opernhaus Zürich debut in May.

Other spring highlights for the Danish conductor include further live-streamed concerts with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, where he has been Music Director since 2018, and return visits to the Orchestre National de France and Gothenburg Symphony.
