Thomas Søndergård heads to New Zealand this week to conduct the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in a tour including performances in Wellington, Tauranga, Hamilton, Auckland and New Plymouth. Joined by pianist Denis Kozhukhin, the programmes will include Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor and Manfred Overture, and Sibelius Symphonies No. 6 and 7, of whom Thomas is a highly acclaimed interpreter.

Highlights for the remainder of this season for Thomas include a special concert with the Royal Danish Academy of Music to celebrate Carl Nielsen’s birthday and performances of Turandot at Bayerische Staatsoper. With the RSNO this season he has led tours to China and the United States, premieres of new commissions and Marsalis’ Violin Concerto with Nicola Benedetti. The 2019/20 season will include visits to the Cleveland Orchestra and NDR Radiophilharmonie.
